Kufuor praises EC boss; advices her to be firm in her dealings with political parties

- Former president Kufuor has advised the EC chairperson, Jean Mensa, to be firm in her dealings with political parties.

- He said this when some EC officials paid a visit to him

- Kufuor also applauded the Mensa for work done so far since she assumed office

Former president John Agyekum Kufuor has heaped praises on the Electoral Commission (EC) for their work so far.

He has also singled out the chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, for her display of integrity and good record of accomplishment.

Kufuor passed these comments when a team from the EC, led by Mensa, paid a courtesy call on him.

The EC officials present included Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, deputy chairman for corporate services, Samuel Tettey, deputy chairman for operations and Adwoa Asuama Abrefa, a member.

The EC’s visit forms part of a series of visits to key stakeholders and it is aimed at building trust and confidence in the electoral process.

Per a report from the EC and copied by Ghanaweb.com, the former president applauded Mensa for her boldness in dealing with all stakeholders without losing her balance since her assumption of office.

Kufuor however recommended further training for all EC staff in order to enhance their performance.

In his opinion, it would also ensure that their actions reflect her level of integrity and honesty.

Kufuor also urged Mensa to be firm and refrain from bowing down to pressure from the political parties when taking decisions in the interest of the nation.

In other news, A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare-Otchere Darko, has called for a stop to the planned construction of a new Parliamentary chamber.

According to him, selling the idea to Ghanaians would be a challenge and for that reason, there is need to halt the project and revisit it in future.
