Police arrest EC official and NPP executives for illegal possession of registration forms

- The police have arrested four people in connection with illegal voter registration activities

- Identities of three of them have been released but the fourth one remains unknown

- They were picked up after an NDC official lodged a complaint

Four people have been arrested in connection with fraudulent voter registration activities, YEN.com.gh has learnt.

The suspects include executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and an official of the Electoral Commission (EC).

They have been charged with illegal possession of EC’s Limited Voter registration guarantors and other registration forms.

Per a report by Starrfm.com.gh, the suspects were picked up at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council’s canteen, behind the regional minister’s office, where they were busy filling forms for new registrants.

They have been identified Kasim, the Nasara coordinator of the Asokwa constituency, Alidu, the youth organizer of Manhyia South constituency, Kyei, an EC staff, and another who is yet to be identified.

The suspect have therefore been handed over to the Ashanti regional police command, after a closed-door meeting between executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), NPP and EC officials at the regional headquarters of the electoral commission in Kumasi.

YEN.com.gh understands that the suspects were picked through a complaint filed by the NDC’s constituency secretary for Asokwa.

Meanwhile, two other alleged members of the NPP Kwadaso constituency, who were arrested on Friday, July 5, 2019, for attempted double registration, are still in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before the court on Monday, July 8, 2019.
