- A number of illegal miners have been arrested in three region of Ghana
- The suspects include two Chinese men

YEN.com.gh understands that illegal miners now use small-scale miners as cover to hide their activities.
This came out after mass arrests were made in the Eastern, Western and Central regions of Ghana.
Operation Vanguard, the joint military-police taskforce established to combat illegal mining arrested two Chinese nationals on Wednesday, July 3, 2019.
Per a ghananewssagency.org report, two Ghanaians, Imoro Yankey and Kwadwo Apau, were also picked up for illegal mining in the Birim North District of the Eastern region.
The two Chinese nationals have been identified as Wan Zhi Dоng and Shi Zhi Hai and have been handed over to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, together with two excavators.
The Ghanaian suspects are however in the custody of the Afosu police station as investigations continue.
Per a statement released by Operation Vanguard, five Ghanaians suspected of illegal mining were also apprehended in the Prestea Huni Valley district in the Western region and have been handed over to the Prestea District police for further investigations to be conducted.
It also revealed that six other Ghanaians were arrested in the Wassa Akropong district in the Central region and have been handed over to the district police for further action.
In other news, four people have been arrested in connection with fraudulent voter registration activities.
The suspects include executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and an official of the Electoral Commission (EC).
They have been charged with illegal possession of EC’s Limited Voter registration guarantors and other registration forms.
