- President Akufo-Addo has rejected the proposal by parliament to use $200m for a new chamber
- The president is reported to have said he wants to focus on top priority projects
- The projects include roads, agriculture, water and housing, and many others
Information gathered by YEN.com.gh have it that the president has kicked against moves by parliament to use $200m for a new chamber.
According to a report seen by YEN.com.gh on Ghanaweb, the president says he is focused on more top priority projects for the country, hence his rejection of the proposal.
The president is reportedly bent on improving Ghana’s roads, the education and training sector, agriculture, water and housing, rural development, and many more, cited the report.
A credible source within the Jubilee house was reported to have reiterated that the $200m proposal has not come to the notice of cabinet for discussion, let alone gaining the president’s approval.
“The President is intent on ensuring that the government focuses on its priority projects – roads, education and training, agriculture, rural development, water and housing,” the report stated.
“The proposal for this building project hasn’t even come to cabinet for discussion, let alone been given cabinet approval,” it added.
Meanwhile, both the majority and minority sides in Parliament have argued in favour of the new chamber with claims that the current structure does not befit their standards.
But their proposal has generated public heat with almost all well-meaning Ghanaians kicking against it.
A young man was even arrested as a result when he chanted “Drop that chamber” in parliament, as earlier reported by YEN.com.gh.
Also, a popular prophet in Sunyani has claimed that he saw in a vision that nine MPs would be killed and kidnapped over the chamber brouhaha.
