Brazil vs Peru ended in a 3-1 win for the Selecao as they were crowned Copa America champions for the ninth time.
It was a repeat of their Group A clash where the hosts hammered Peru by 5-0 in the final group game of the first round.
But this time round, there was everything thing to play for as the underdogs were a better side coming into the finals after dumping Uruguay and Chile out in the quarter finals and semis respectively.
Brazil scored from their first real chance in the 15th minute as Gabriel Jesus' delightful delivery was tucked home by Everton at the near post to make it 1-0.
The fans at the Estadio Maracana were on their feet as Philippe Coutinho almost grabbed the second in the 25th minute and the Barcelona man got a foot to Roberto Firmino's cross which sailed inches wide.
The referee then awarded Peru a penalty a minute before half after Thiago Silva handled the ball inside the 18-yard box.
Then, Paolo Guerrero sent Alisson Becker the wrong way to level matters at 1-1, giving their traveling fans something to celebrate.
Brazil got back into the lead almost immediately as Arthur provided the assist for Jesus who stirred the ball home to make it 2-1 in two minutes added to the 45 minutes.
Manchester striker Jesus was given his marching orders after a second bookable offence as Brazil were reduced to ten men in the 70th minute.
Jesus got so angry that he almost pushed the VAR monitor to the ground and went back into the dressing room in tears.
In the 88th minute Brazil were awarded a penalty as Carlos Zambrano pushed Everton and the referee had to confirm the incident on the VAR monitor before giving the spot-kick.
Richarlison converted the spot-kick to ensure Brazil's victory as the Samba Boys became South America champions again.
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh had reported that Lionel Messi and his Argentina teammates failed to reach the Copa América final after a 0-2 defeat to tournament host and old rivals Brazil on Tuesday, July 2, in Belo Horizonte courtesy of a goal in each half from Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino.
Jesus opened scores for Brazil in the 19th minute with Firmino providing a low cross for the Man City striker to side-foot home from close range.
