- Parliament has dropped the decision to construct a new chamber costing $200m
- This was disclosed by the PRO of Parliament, Kate Addo
- She said the board of Parliament would meet over the new decision and issues arising
The acting PRO of Parliament, Mrs. Kate Addo, has revealed that the idea to construct a new chamber would be dropped.
According to her, the idea is not feasible now, and the parliamentary board would meet over the matter.
She was speaking in an interview monitored by YEN.com.gh on GHONe TV on their newsroom programme of Monday, July 8, 2019.
“Before projects are completed, feasibility studies are done but you would realise that this new chamber is not something that is workable for now,” she said.
"There will be a board meeting to say if it will be halted or not, but for now, it is not feasible," the parliament PRO said.
She stated, however, that the decision by Parliament not to go ahead with the project now does not necessarily mean money has been wasted.
Madam Addo further appealed to Ghanaians to use the right channel in protesting.
Meanwhile, the president has kicked against the move to use $200m for a new chamber.
In an earlier report by YEN.com.gh, it was disclosed that the president intended to focus on top priority projects than the chamber.
These projects include roads, education and training sector, agriculture, and many others.
It is good to also note that the proposal for the construction of the new chamber had generated heated controversy among Ghanaians with one man being arrested.
