- Emmanuel Amuneke has been sacked by Tanzania
- The 48-year-old becomes the second manager to be sacked after poor AFCON outing
- Taifa Stars lost all three Group C matches after failing to pick a point in the competition
Tanzania have terminated the appointment of coach Emmanuel Amuneke after his side's poor performance at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations championship in Egypt.
The former Super Eagles winger was appointed head coach of the Taifa Stars in August 2018 and qualified them for the 32nd edition of the continental championship.
They however failed to pick a point at the competition having lost all three group matches against Algeria, Senegal and Kenya in Group C.
Amuneke's men got their campaign off to a losing start following their 2-0 defeat to Senegal. While Kenya edged them out 3-2 in the second game.
And Algeria compounded their woes by thrashing them 3-0 in their last game as they finish with zero point at the end of group games.
The poor outing in Egypt was unacceptable for the country's football FA, and decided to terminate the contract of the former Super Eagles star.
"The Tanzania Football Association (TFF) and the national team coach, Emmanuel Amunike, have reached a joint agreement to terminate the contract between us,” read a statement on the TFF website.
"TFF will announce the TAN coach who will lead the national team for Chan matches. TAN coaches will be announced after the Emergency Committee meeting on July 11, 2019.”
The Taifa Stars qualified for the African championship for the first time in 39 years under the tutelage of the former Nigerian winger.
Amuneke is the second manager to be sacked after Egypt boss Javier Aguirre, while Uganda coach Sebastien Desabre stepped down after crashing out at the knockout stage.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that African Cup of Nations hosts Egypt had expelled star forward Amr Warda from the team squad ahead of their second Group A fixture.
Warda's expulsion was confirmed in a statement by Egypt Football Federation on Wednesday, June 26.
