AFCON 2019: Mubarak Wakaso weeps after Black Stars' defeat Tunisia (photo)

Black Stars midfielder Mubarak Wakaso could not hold his tears after Ghana was eliminated from the 2019 Africa Cup Nations (AFCON 2019) by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the round 16.

After playing a goalless first half, the Black Stars who seemed to have taken control of the match were surprised in the 73rd minute after the Tunisians took the lead through Taha Khenissi’s effort.

The stars regrouped and pressed on for equaliser which came in stoppage time as Rami Bedoui headed into his own net to force the match into extra time.

Though the Black Stars dominated the extra-time, the team could not find the net and their fate was to be decided by penalties.

While Tunisians scored all of their five kicks, second-half substitute Caleb Ekuban missed his for Ghana leaving the score after penalties 5-4 in favour of Tunisia.

Wakaso who scored the first penalty kick for Ghana on the night was named man of the match.

But after taking his award, the Deportivo Alaves star who looked very sad could not help but shed uncontrollable tears.

"I thought this tournament was for us because we've put in a lot of hard work. Now we need to think about the future," he said after receiving the award.

The photo of Wakaso crying has got attention on social media with many consoling the midfielder and praising him for playing his heart out.
