True or false: Does Akufo-Addo really oppose the $200m parliament chamber?

True or false: Does Akufo-Addo really oppose the $200m parliament chamber?

The most dominant topic in the country currently is Parliament’s quest to construct a new chamber.

Legislators in Ghana have come under the spotlight in recent weeks after a proposal was laid for this project.

The multi-purpose 450-capacity chamber block will reportedly cost an amount in the region of $200 million.

This has sparked wild reactions from a section of Ghanaians, who believe erecting a new chamber is unnecessary at this moment.

A demonstration has also been scheduled for July 13, while the hashtag #DropThatChamber is already trending on social media.

However, Parliament appears to have finally yielded to the pressure from Ghanaians to halt the project.

The Parliamentary Service Board has indicated that the development of a new chamber block has been taken out of its present agenda.

There have also been reports that suggest President Akufo-Addo has kicked against the $200 million chamber.

But can these claims be verified? Akufo-Addo is known to be very active on social media and usually announces every important decision on his pages.

So why has he not emphatically stated his position on this matter? Why has no official statement come from his office, or any recognised source close to him?

As it stands, the sources claiming the President has opposed the construction of the new chamber are all third parties and cannot be totally trusted on this.

There is no credible evidence to show that Nana Addo opposes the project and he would do himself a whole lot of good if he comes out vehemently to state his position on this matter.
