Throwback photo of Wakaso playing football barefooted tells his story from rags to riches

- Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has earned praise for his performances for the Black Stars at the AFCON 2019

- Despite the generally lacklustre performance which led to the team being booted out of the competition by Tunisia in the round of 16, Wakaso has not been criticised

- Amid Wakaso's praises, a throwback photo of the midfielder during his boyhood has popped up online

Ghana's Black Stars have been eliminated from the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2019) following their loss to the Carthage Eagles.

The Black Stars lost 5-4 on penalties after being held 1-1 draw by the Tunisians after extra time in the last 1/16 round game played in Ismailia.

The defeat has led to many criticisms for Black Stars squad with many blaming the players for performing poorly.

Of all the players, one person that has been exempted from the criticisms has been Deportivo Alaves star, Mubarak Wakaso.

The midfielder who was named the man of the match for the Tunisia game has received massive praise for his commitment and dedication throughout the tournament.

Amid the praise-singing for Wakaso, has sighted a throwback photo of Wakaso playing football during his boyhood days.

In the photo, Wakaso was seen squatting behind a ball on a football pitch. Interestingly, he did not have a pair of boots on and seemed to played the game barefooted.

Meanwhile, Wakaso was spotted weeping after Ghana was eliminated from the tournament.

As earlier reported by, Wakaso broke down in tears after receiving his man of the match prize.
