Ghanaian WWE champ Kofi Kingston attends ESPYs with wife and children; lose award (photo)

- WWE world champion Kofi Kingston lost out on an award at the 2019 ESPN Sport Personalities of the Year awards

- Kingston's historic win at Wrestlemania 35 fell short as Roman Reigns won their category

- Kingston found solace in his wife and two kids with whom he attended the event

Reigning World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) World Heavyweight champion Kofi Kingston has lost out on a top award in the United States.

Kingston won the WWE title in April and had been nominated for the WWE Moment at the 2019 ESPN Sports Personalities of the Year (ESPYs).

But the Ghanaian-born wrestler lost the award as his historic win at Wrestlemania 35 was not enough to beat Roman Reigns' return to WWE after suffering leukaemia.

Despite his lose, Kofi Kingston who attended the awards held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, on Thursday, July 11, 2019, with his wife and two sons was still very excited.

Sharing a photo from the awards ceremony, Kofi Kingston revealed how special it was to spend such time with his family.

According him, it was an amazing experience and his two sons were very happy.

"We had a great time at the ESPYS! It was even more amazing to share the experience with my family! We all had such an awesome time; especially the boys, lol."

Born Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah in Kumasi on August 14, 1981, the 37-year-old made history with his win in April as he became the first person born in Africa and the second black man ever to hold the title.

Since his win, Kofi Kingston has had the opportunity to connect with his roots. He visited Ghana in June 2019.

During his visit, Kingston met with President Nana Akufo-Addo, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and also visited his hometown.

As earlier reported by, Kingston's wife is an actress Kori Campfield and their sons are called Khi and Orion.

Kingston has shown that he is not only a great sportsman but a great father and husband.
