John Mahama and wife finally register for Ghana Card after initial resistance

- Former President John Dramani Mahama and his wife Mrs. Lordina Mahama have finally enrolled onto the National Identity Register

- Other members of the former President’s household and office staff were also captured on the National Identification Authority’s database and were issued with the Ghana Card

- President Mahama used the occasion to emphasize the importance of the Ghana Card to the nation’s development

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued former President John Mahama and his wife with the Ghana Card.

The two were given their cards after being enrolled onto the National Identity Register on Tuesday, July 9.

Aside Mahama and Lordina, other staff at the former’s East Cantonments office were also registered and issued with the Ghana Card.

The NDC flagbearer urged Ghanaians to go out there and register for the Ghana Card.

He said it is important for every Ghanaian to register for the Ghana Card, adding that it is key to the country’s development.

The team from the NIA was led by Executive Secretary, Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, to Mahama’s office.

Prof. Attafuah expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded the team by the ex-President.

The NIA has already registered former presidents Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor.

The mass registration and issuance of the Ghana Card began in the Greater Accra Region in April.

The region was divided into two zones: Accra West and Accra East, where registration centres were opened at specific locations.
