- Kawasaki Frontale vs Chelsea preseason clash ended in favour of the Japanese League side
- Damiao scored the only goal of the meeting inn the 86th minute after coming off the bench in the second half of the game
- This is however Frank Lampard's first defeat in charge of the Blues since he was appointed this summer
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard suffered first defeat in charge of the club following his side's 1-0 defeat to Japanese club side Kawasaki Frontale in a friendly game.
Leandro Damiao's 86th minute header was all the J1 League outfit needed to stun the Premier League giants after regulation period.
The 29-year-old Brazilian came from the bench in the early minutes of the second half and just four minutes to the end of the match, his stunning header lifted his side above the visitors.
However, the Blues failed to build up on their 4-0 win over Saint Patrick's Athletic in their last preseason match at the Richmond Park earlier this week.
This defeat will be a wake up call for the former Derby County manager ahead of the new league season kicking off next month.
It will be recalled that the Stamford Bridge outfit are unable to sign players owing to the two windows transfer ban slammed on them by FIFA.
They will however hope they can bounce back from this shocking defeat as they continue their preseason campaign in the Asian country.
Meanwhile, Lampard has this to say after the match: "Lampard says he is very pleased with how the players performed physically in very humid conditions.
"He adds there were some good individual performances and even though our finishing let us down, that will improve with time.
