Deputy Education Minister Dr Osei Adutwum attacked; shot at by armed men

- Dr Osei Adutwum has been reportedly attacked by highway robbers

- He was attacked while travelling on the Bolga-Kumasi highway

- His vehicle was shot at by armed men numbering about seven

The Deputy Education Minister Dr Osei Adutwum has been reportedly attacked by highway robbers on the Bolga-Kumasi highway.

The incident happened on July 22, 2019 at about 17:30 hours.

Police highway patrol team stationed in the area was called in but the suspects managed to escape into the bushes as soon as they saw the security personnel arriving.

The bushes were searched extensively by the police but could not find the robbers.

According to the victims, the suspects, numbering about seven, were all dressed in military-like uniforms.

The police said the robbers shot into the vehicle of the minister while taking other passengers and drivers under siege near Sarikyikura on the Tamale-Buipe highway.

The Northern region police command has mounted a search for the group of robbers.

“Five persons sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching hospital. The robbers also shot into the vehicle of the Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Dr. Osei Adutum who was traveling from Bolga to Kumasi,” a police statement said.
