WWE Hall of famer Harley Race dies

WWE Hall of famer and eight-time National Wrestling Alliance world heavyweight champion, Harley Race, died on Thursday, August 1, at age 76 due to health related complications.

WWE described Race as one of the most dominant wrestlers in the 1970s and early 1980s, and he is one of the few legends in the business to have won as many world heavyweight championships.

The news of his passing was posted by his son Jason on the wrestler's official Twitter account with Race having suffered from lung cancer.

"Today at 12:50, we lost the man that fought up until the very last of his existence.

"More information will be released soon, but just know that he loved pro-wrestling and the fans that loved him. Harley Race, we love you," read the Tweet by Jason.

According to CNN, Race was had his partner Ros and his family by his side at the hospital in St. Charles, Missouri, when he took his last breath.

"He kept fighting till the end, he is the most genuine human being I know. I don't even think he knew the impact he has had on others."

Race referred to himself as "the greatest wrestler on God's green earth," and was known to for his exceptional grappling skills in the ring.

'King' Harley Race was also the first to put on regal robes and a crown after winning the King of the Ring tournament.
