Asamoah Gyan praises Nyantakyi; says he is reason for Ghana’s three World Cup appearances

- He said Nyantakyi is reason for the high points in Ghana football but Ghanaians instead of praising him, destroyed him in seconds

Ghana’s all time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan has praised former Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The Black Stars general captain has paid glowing tribute to Mr. Nyantakyi for his immense contribution to football in Ghana.

Gyan who was speaking on Accra-based Joy FM said, Ghanaians have not been fair to the former CAF Vice President.

He opined that Kwesi Nyantakyi was like an angel sent to help Ghana Football.

He [Kwasi Nyantakyi] was like an angel sent to help Ghana Football. Let’s look at the peak he elevated our game to the world,” Gyan told Joy FM.

A not too excited Gyan, also noted that, Nyantakyi was the reason why Ghana qualified for three World Cups.

Our football hasn’t been better since Kwasi Nyantakyi absence. It’s very sad. Whether we like it or not, Ghana made the three appearances at the FIFA World Cup because of him,” Gyan fumed.

Gyan went ahead to describe the former Fifa Executive Council member as a good man who was destroyed by Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ documentary in 48-hours.

”The man was mishandled and treated unfairly by Ghanaians after the so called video exposé. We should have opened an in-depth investigation into the matter.

I have worked with him for several years and I know the kind of person, I am talking about today. He rose the highest level of world football to become Caf first-vice president and a Fifa Executive Council Member but we used less than 48 hours to bring him down,” he said.

Gyan spoke in a bare it all interview with Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Friday, August 9. He also lamented the manner in which he was side-lined as captain of the senior football team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019.
