- UEFA Super Cup clash will see both Liverpool and Chelsea battle for the first title of the European season
- Jose Mourinho believes Blues boss Lampard must start Giroud, Alonso and Kante to stand a chance in the game
- Both teams triumphed in Europe last campaign winning Champions League and Euopra League titles
Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has urged Frank Lampard to infuse a bit of experience in the Chelsea team that will battle Liverpool for the UEFA Super Cup title.
The two Premier League teams will face off for the first time this season following their triumph in Europe last campaign.
Jurgen Klopp's men lifted the Champions League title, while the west London side were victorious in the Europa League after demolishing Arsenal in the final of the tournament.
However, the Blues' 4-0 defeat to Man United at Old Trafford in Sunday's EPL outing was a major concern for the former Real Madrid handler, who claims Lampard's squad was too soft.
Mourinho criticised Chelsea boss for sitting the likes of N'golo Kante, Olivier Giroud and Marcos Alonso on the bench - with Kurt Zouma, Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount starting the game.
Meanwhile, the three-time Premier League winning coach wants his former side to move on from that defeat and bounce back against the Reds this mid-week.
The 56-year-old believes the experienced Marcos Alonso and Olivier Giroud getting a look in, along with Kante despite concerns over his fitness will give them some level of competitiveness.
"Chelsea were too soft, not compact defensively, not aggressive enough, there was too much space between the lines. They did not press in blocks." Mourinho said while making his Sky Sports punditry debut.
"If Kante can play 30-35 minutes he can start the game. And then if he lasts only one hour then he lasts one hour.
"But maybe Frank listens to us and says Kante is impossible to play. My feeling is that they had a possibility to play with more know-how.
"Alonso was on the bench, Kante was on the bench, Giroud was on the bench, and to come to Old Trafford, even if this is not the huge Manchester United that used to scare people, it’s Manchester United.
"A little bit of experience would fit well with the team. "You look to the performance of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and for matches of this dimension you need a little bit more.
"There were moments seeing this game that Chelsea without the ball had a block of six and a block of four. Abraham, Barkley, Pedro and Mount stayed up.
"Good teams all defend compact, higher block or lower block but always in a block. "So there are principles of play that are just basic. You have to defend compact. Chelsea was never that. So it was too easy for United."
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Jose Mourinho has ruled out chances of Man United and Chelsea lifting the Premier League title, just days into the new season.
The Portuguese tactician sensationally claimed Manchester City's substitutes would more likely lift the title compared to United and the Blues.
He instead named four different teams he believes can mount a serious title challenge this campaign.
