Malawian school dropout creates windmill from junk (Photos)

- A Malawian has helped generate electricity with the invention of a windmill manufactured from junk

- William Kamkwamba was forced out of school as a result of farming and therefore took an interest in reading science books

- His third windmill proved capable of pumping grey water to help with irrigation projects is in possession of photos of a Malawian school dropout, William Kamkwamba, who created a windmill from junk.

Information available shows that Kamkwamba used his invention to provide power for his family’s home.

Kamkwamba reportedly learnt how to create the device after reading two books, Using Energy and How it Works, which are focused on the use of a windmill to generate electricity.

News of his invention soon spread and led to international fame that brought with it several opportunities.

Kamkwamba, per a report by, was born on August 5, 2019, and is the second child in his family.

He received basic education but dropped out of school because his family faced financial challenges after a famine swept through his village.

He consequently developed interest in reading science books; a habit that became the foundation for his creation.

Source: UGC understands that a small windmill he initially built could provide electricity to power his room.

Using a radio motor, tractor fan blade, old shock absorber and blue gum trees, he built a prototype which helped power four light bulbs and charge cellular phones.

His third attempt at building a windmill was enough to pump grey water to help with irrigation.

In other news, Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has celebrated the Islamic holiday, Eid al-Adha, with images of her father.

In the photos, Dr. Nkrumah was seen posing with some prominent personalities, one of who was Sheikh Ibrahim Anyass.

Sheikh Anyass was a Senegalese Muslim scholar who was recognized as a major leader of the Tijānī Sufi order of Islam in West Africa.
