U.S-based Ghanaian academic and activist, Prof Stephen Kwaku Asare, popularly known as Kwaku Azar, has warned of the possible danger if government renames the University of Ghana.
In a post sighted on his Facebook page, the lawyer said “It will be disastrous to attempt to rename University of Ghana!DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT attempt it. Da Yie!"
His comments are believed to follow media reports of the Deputy Information Minister, Pious Enam Hadzide, who said he would not be surprised if the University of Ghana (UG) was renamed after the late Ghanaian statesman Joseph Boakye Danquah.
Social media commentators have however reacted to the post stating obvious reasons why it should or should not happen.
Emmanuel said he prays that UG is renamed so that it would eventually lead to the cancellation of all the renamed ones.
Issifu said the renaming of universities was just a charade to cover the true intention of naming UG after Danquah.
Francis could not fathom what the leaders were actually thinking by trying to rename all the institutions.
She however described the practice by government to rename public institutions after former politicians as a misplaced priority.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News, Samia Nkrumah said politicians should rather focus on addressing pertinent problems facing citizens.
