The Ghana Police has arrested a Nigerian national for attempting to kidnap a 14-year-old girl.
The incident is reported to have happened at Asomdwie, a farming community in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District.
The 25-year-old suspect, identified as Samuel Oyedemo, reportedly tried to elope with the victim at around 10:00am on Tuesday, August 13, 2019.
He was, however, overpowered by the townsfolk when his kidnap attempt was foiled.
A kitchen knife and 19 ladies’ pаnties of different colours and sizes were found in the suspect’s bag when he was searched.
The townsfolk then handed the suspect over to the district police, who in turn processed him for court.
Appearing before the Abura Dunkwa Magistrate Court on Wednesday, August 14, the suspect pleaded guilty to his charges.
The Presiding Judge, His Worship Abrebrese, sentenced him to four years imprisonment for kidnapping.
Meanwhile, another suspect who was arrested alongside Samuel Oyedemo is to undergo psychiatric analysis before his prosecution starts, the police confirmed.
This is the latest in a spate of crimes and kidnappings in which the suspects have been identified as being Nigerians.
