Amid tears, a Texas woman who celebrated her 110th birthday in July 2019 has attributed the one thing that’s helped her reach the incredible milestone to her faith in the Lord.

Elizabeth Francis said in an interview that longevity is a “blessing of the lord,” adding that, “He’s the one keeping me. That’s why I’m living.”

The grandmother, who was born in Louisiana in 1909, hasn’t lost her memory and still has her health.

''It’s really special because she’s been able to watch and see all of her grandchildren grow up and be a part of their lives,'' Ethel Harrison, Francis’ granddaughter said.

Francis, who has witnessed six generations of her family, wore a birthday crown for the celebration.

Despite her age, Francis, who still has her memory, could relate with the people and bond in a special way. And she brings her years of experience in life to educate the people around her.

Meanwhile, as part of a campaign to tackle Unpaid Care Work (UCW); which refers to the domestic workload placed on women such as cooking, washing, fetching water, taking care of children and sick family members, ActionAid has organised Men’s Cooking Competition in communities to demystify the idea that men do not belong in the kitchen.

Participating men are provided with a budget to go shopping at the market and prepare a meal, after which they are judged based on the quality of their meal.
