A mother, whose identity is yet to be established, has explained the reason behind her decision to send her daughter to Nigeria.
The family, which includes the mother, two boys and a girl, reside in the United Kingdom (UK).
However, the mother opted to send her daughter, Titi, then aged 11 years, to a village called Ofada in the Ogun state, in Nigeria, to live with her grandmother and receive boarding education.
Titi went on to say that she was precocious as a child but her mother cleverly hid details of the trip from her till they left her in Nigeria.
She reveals that unlike Nigeria, she had constant access to electricity, running taps, pizza and other luxuries during her stay in the UK.
BBC News Africa reports that Titi was compelled to fetch water from wells in Nigeria and it was a horrifying experience for her.
She adds that she held a cutlass in her hands for the first time and was deprived of food items by seniors in the boarding school.
In retrospection, Titi agrees that her mother’s intent were great, and even though she was initially punished for her challenges in learning the Yoruba language, she now desires to be an expert in it.
YEN.com.gh understands that during her stay in Nigeria, Titi trained to be lawyer but has placed the law practice aside and is determined to help her community in Nigeria.
