Sacked PPA boss was cited for 'robbing' the state of GHc72.5m in 2003 - Report

- Suspended Chief Executive of the Public Procurement Authority, Adjenim Boateng Adjei has been the subject of scrutiny and investigations in the past as he had been sighted for corruption in 2003

- Records suggests that in 2003, a committee was set up to investigate him for allegedly misappropriating public funds

- He together with 3 others were recommended for prosecution for causing financial loss to the state to a tune of GHc72.5m.

Information reaching YEN.com.gh indicates that the suspended Chief Executive of the Public Procurement Authority, Adjenim Boateng Adjei has been the subject of scrutiny and investigations in the past as he had been sighted for corruption in 2003.

Records suggests that in 2003, a committee was set up to investigate him for allegedly misappropriating public funds.

According to the report, AB Adjei and 3 others were recommended for prosecution for causing financial loss to the state to a tune of GHc72.5m.

AB Adjei who was then the Chief Manager (materials) at GWCL was marked for prosecution by the Justice Adade Committee of Enquiry in March 2001 that certain regions had built up large stocks of printed stationery, contrary to the GWCL board’s directive that such stocks should not be purchased in excess of a year’s requirements of the particular region.

The Ghanaian Chronicle reported that government’s position on the committee revealed that monies that were fraudulently taken from the company be recovered, the perpetrators were dismissed and finally made to face the law on charges of causing financial loss to the state.

As to how the directive or findings from the Justice Addai committee set up to investigate the case was not carried out, YEN.com.gh is yet to verify.

In a related development, the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Adjenim Boateng Adjei, was removed from his position over allegations of corruption.

A statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, Eugene Arhin stated that the embattled PPA boss had been suspended with immediate effect.

The letter further noted that, the matter had been forwarded and assigned to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice CHRAJ and the Office of the Special Prosecutor for investigation.
