The former Captain of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah, has revealed the last conversation he had with Agogo just a week before his death.
Appiah, reportedly speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, said Agogo had told him that he was planning to visit Ghana at the end of August.
According to him, they were both preparing for his coming when he heard the shocking news that Agogo had died.
A distraught Appiah said he did not want to believe the news, and so, he called Agogo’s brother only for the news to be confirmed.
Speaking on the fondest memories he has about Agogo, Appiah said he recalls when they went to a club in Labone, Accra, after the CAN 2008, and Agogo was loved by everyone.
He said Agogo’s presence caused awe in the club and everyone wanted to see him.
As lively as he was, the late football star related well with everyone there, earning him more admiration.
Appiah further revealed that he affectionately called Agogo “Manu Manu” because his friends in Italy called him “Emmanuel Manu”
Though he did not play for long with the Black Stars, Appiah revealed that Agogo was much loved by the team mates because of his likeable personality.
Meanwhile, Michael Essien has been attacked for mourning Agogo and for his choice of words in doing so.
Agogo had eallier told the BBC in an interview that his friends including Michael Essien and Samuel Etoo no longer got in touch with him after he suffered stroke in 2015.
