Ghana thrashes Nigeria in jollof cooking competition to win cash prize

Ghana has been crowned winner in a jollof competition that saw the country’s main contender place last in a fierce culinary battle to determine which country can prepare mind-blowing jollof.

For years, there’s been unsettled beefs between the two West African nations regarding which of two countries has the best tasting jollof.

24-year-old chef, Sika Mortoo, representing Ghana, thrashed his Nigerian counterpart in an Onga cooking competition which took place over the weekend in August 2019 to win first place.

All three judges for the cooking competition voted in favour of Ghana after they tasted plates of jollof from the chefs representing the competing countries.

Ghana earned an unmatched high score of 95% for the country’s jollof taste and Nigeria scored 75%

The judges were from Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. Winner of the jollof competition, Sika Mortoo, took home a cash prize of $2000 while his Nigeria counterpart, chef Turay, received $1000.

Meanwhile, in a video that has gained traction on social media, two police officers were captured directing a 'lady' to collect a sachet rubber she threw into a gutter with her hand.

For what has been normalised in our society, most people have thrown sanity to the wind and continue to live below human dignity and perhaps deserve to be compelled to do the right thing.
