Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has denied cheating on his wife with a mystery woman in a hotel at Vancouver.

The DC United forward was pictured around 5:30am at the lobby of the hotel with an unknown woman after a night out with his MLS teammate.

He was said to have been spotted chatting with the lady in the lift at the Hyatt Regency hotel that morning, and he has broken silence to defend his innocence on the matter.

According to the Mirror, Rooney said: "Nothing happened between me and any girl on that night in Vancouver. I did not enter the lift alone with the girl pictured in the hotel foyer.

"The girl pictured in the club was simply one of many who innocently asked for autographs and pictures.

"This whole story was a smear against me. It is damaging to my family and not something I am prepared to put up with."

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old was sighted wearing his wedding band while heading to training on Tuesday.

The forward, who is still with his Major League Soccer side DC United was said to have been question by his wife Coleen on her arrival in the United States.

Reports however confirmed that she asked to be allowed to return to the United Kingdon in a bid to save their marriage of about one decade.

The couple are said to have overcome many trying times brewed by the player's partying ways, meanwhile he is expected to be punished if he broke his contract with the club before the end of the season.

Legit.ng earlier reported that former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will return to Old Trafford in coaching capacity when he retires, reports claim.

The Red Devils' record goal scorer is looking forward to becoming a part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's backroom staff in the future.

Rooney's decision would calm his wife Coleen, who has told close friends that she wants to return home to England.
