- NDC stalwart, Victor Smith is alleging the NPP is engaging 'thugs' for the 2020 elections
- According to the former Ghana High Commissioner to the UK, the thugs are being trained at the military base in the Easter Region
- He warned the NPP not to think of rigging the 2020 elections
The ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) has been accused of training some party thugs ahead of the 2020 general elections.
According to Victor Smith, a former Ghana High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, the thugs are being trained in weapon handling.
Speaking on Kasapa FM, he alleged that the party thugs are being trained at Asutuare Military Training base in the Eastern Region.
Mr. Smith, however, warned that there could be dire consequences should the NPP try to use thugs during next year’s election.
‘The NPP is training soldiers at Asutuare, we know where they are training some people also here in Accra. The NPP should continue to train and use them and we’ll see what will happen in Ghana,” he said.
“…they give them three weeks of weapon training. If they[NPP] want the good of Ghana, they should not use these people they are training.”
The former ambassador also accused the NPP of rigging the 2016 elections, adding that such a move will not be tolerated in 2020.
According to him, what Ghanaians need is a free and fair election that will produce a legitimate president to rule this country.
He said the NPP “didn’t win the 2016 election fairly” and would only be plunging the country into chaos if the party tries to unfairly manoeuvre its way to victory once again.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Eastern regional command of the Ghana Police Service, Sargent Francis Gomado, has warned the state against giving weapons to every police officer in the attempt to arm them.
According to the deputy PRO, not all officers in the country can be trusted to be professional with the use of the firearms.
