- He opined during a radio discussion that Ghanaians are inspired to kill police officers whenever they wish because of John Mahama and Ofosu Ampofo
- Chairman Wontumi is not happy with the recent happenings with the Ghana Police Service
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) says former president John Mahama and Samuel Ofosu Ampofo must be arrested over the recent killing of two police officers at Gomoa Buduburam.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, said “reckless talk” by the NDC duo is what has led to such a sad incident.
According to him, the “evil plots” of the NDC flagbearer and chair have emboldened criminals to challenge police officers.
“Because of the reckless talk, reckless decisions, reckless comments have influenced and motivated Ghanaians to kill police officers. Ghana must rise to arrest Ofosu Ampofo, Ghana police must rise to arrest him to stop all these things,” he said on Kumasi-based Ash FM, as quoted by Ghanaweb.
Chairman Wontumi added that the police must immediately arrest Ofosu Ampofo over the killing of the police officers. “Why must we kill ourselves because of John Mahama and Ofosu Ampofo when we are in our country? The police must give me a 24-hour contract to arrest Ofosu Ampofo.”
Two police officers were gruesomely murdered at Gomoa Buduburam in the Central Region.
Sergeant Michael Gyamasi and Lance Corporal Awal Mohammed were shot dead while on attachment duties on the Kasoa-Winneba highway.
They were shot when they tried to intercept an unregistered Blue/black Toyota Camry in which the assailants were on board.
The suspects in the murder have, however, all been apprehended by the police.
Meanwhile, it will be recalled that the NDC’s National Chairman, Ofosu Ampofo, came under the spotlight after an audio attributed to him leaked in the media.
The content of the leaked tape drew widespread criticism from a section of the public, with many condemning the NDC Chairman.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that three men had been arrested in connection with an alleged shipment of some 59 AK-47 assault rifles.
The suspects were reportedly picked up on Friday, August 30, 2019, at Nsakina near Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region after they were reported to be part of a highly networked syndicate that bought weapons and sent them to the North.
