Michael Essien is latest African player to make FIFA 20 Ultimate Team Icon list

EA Sport has announced Michael Essien as the latest player to make the FIFA 20 Ultimate Team Icon list.

The former Ghana international becomes only the second African to make the FIFA 20 Icon list after Didier Drogba.

Essien has been without a club for some time now, but he has been actively playing ambassadorial roles in football.

In July 2019, he was named as an ambassador for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup held in France.

The former Chelsea star was among 23 football legends selected to help promote this year’s Women’s World Cup.

The 36-year-old was in host nation France to help drive attendances and generate engagement at the tournament.

He has also played in various charity games in recent months to help raise funds for various UN projects.

Now, Essien has been recognized by EA Sports, having become only the second African player to make the FIFA 20 Ultimate Team Icon list.

EA SPORTS' FIFA 20 is just a few weeks away from being released, however, some major improvements have been added to the game.

Changes have been made to some of the game's most popular game modes, including Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs and a brand new game mode in VOLTA Football.

Meanwhile, other players who make the exclusive list of the game’s icons are Peter Schmeichel, Carles Puyol, Cannavaro, Gerrard, Seedorf, Best, Pires, Deco and Van Nistelrooy.
