Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been ranked ahead of his arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the FIFA 20 rating leaked recently.

Both stars have been on top of their games - winning five ballon d'Or awards each since 2007 and they are in contention for the 2019 edition of the prestigious prize.

SunSport however reports that the Argentine ranks just one point above the Juventus superstar on the shortlist of 85 players by the game company.

The publication recalled that in 2018, EA Sports phenomenon - FIFA19 - was widely criticised by lovers of the game, although they admitted they got one thing right.

And it was that both Messi and Ronaldo got the same 94/100 rating, while other individual stats varied in line with their real life styles.

Meanwhile, the Portuguese forward dropped one point in this year's edition of the game according to Twitter account FIFA20 News.

However, the two players remain the most ranked stars on the game outside of the FIFA Icons, while Neymar follows Ronaldo with 92 points.

Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard ranks fourth with 91 points and Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Luka Modric wrap up the top five with 90 points each.

This year, Cristiano Ronaldo and the Italian League champions Juventus will not be featured in the FIFA 20 after signing an exclusive deal with rivals Pro Evolution Soccer.

These two players have won the Ballon D'Or award five times each and they have also lifted many trophies with their respective clubs.

However, it must be noted that the only trophy these two football legend have not won in common is the World Cup and they may not win it before they hang their boots.
