Fact Check: Who actually started free SHS?

- Information available to YEN.com.gh indicates that late president Mills partially started the free SHS, since it was only free for day students during his tenure of office

- The difference here is that president Akufo-Addo made it free for all, as both day and boarding students are benefiting from the policy

The unending debate about the advent of The New Patriotic Party's free senior high school policy has however taken a new twist.

The policy which was introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration as their main campaign message is believed not to have been started by President Nana Akufo-Addo, as a lot of people believe it to be.

According to the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu-Juaben, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh, the whole free SHS idea was borne by former president Mills.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has finally released placement for candidates who sat for the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) .

Those who passed for the BECE have been placed into various Senior High Schools, Vocational and Technical Institutes for the 2019/2020 academic year.

The placement comes a week after the West African Examinations Council released the 2019 BECE results.
