- It has most often than not been the case that spouses, especially the married women, deny their husbands sex using different kind of justifiable excuses
- On many occasions they use their monthly menstrual flow, sickness, child birth and stress resulting from house work as excuses to keep their husbands from touching them.
- This attitude by women has prompted the Central regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) to stated what the law says about their continuous denial
The Central Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), George Appiah-Sakyi, has however called on husbands to report wives who deny them sex to the police for the law to deal with them.
He said women who refused their husbands sex could be charged for emotional abuse and when found guilty, jailed for a maximum of two years or be fined 500 penalty units which is equivalent to GH¢6,000 or both.
According to him, the law was also applicable to men who denied their wives sex and encouraged them to also lodge complaints.
“If your husbands refuse to eat your food and make you unhappy and cause you emotional pain, you can also report them to the police. If your husband comes home late and causes you to be unhappy you can make a case at DOVVSU.
“If your wife wears jeans to sleep and causes you emotional abuse it’s an offence and you can report her to DOVVSU,” he stated.
He said he wants to retain power because it is the people’s will, and not because the EC provided a helping hand.
The President said this when some officials of the EC paid him a visit at the Jubilee House on Thursday, September 12, 2019.
