Social media users are not happy about the support the former president is throwing in for the Asantehene

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has commended Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his address at the UN High Level Forum on Culture of Peace last Friday, September, 13, 2019.

According to the former statesman, the Asantehene made Ghana proud.

Rawlings, however, frowned on comments by some Ashanti faithful over comments made by his party’s leader, John Dramani Mahama.

According to him, the statement issued by the Asante Youth Association in reaction to former Chief of Staff to Mahama, saying the decision to concede and congratulate Nana Akufo-Addo even before the official results were declared was taken by President Mahama himself was done without any persuasion from any quarter.

In a twitter post, former president Rawlings said, The Asantehene has made us proud with a highly educative address to the UN on the subject of PEACE. Comments by former President Mahama on an aspect of the address shouldn't elicit or provoke edict sounding threats....

Twitter users have however reacted differently to the post by the former statesman.

@zenanoba said just like the Asantehene's comments, Rawlings' comments are also needless.

Courage said because of hypocrites like Rawlings tension would continue to breed in Ghana

@francisdon said since he heard this, he would gradually find out how corrupt the government is.

Meanwhile, the Asante Youth Association has condemned the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) for what they have described as attempts to use their ‘selfish political gains’ to mar the Asante Kingdom.

Following the release of a statement from the office of the former president, the Director of Operations for the Asante Youth Association, Nana Oppong Boadu called on Mahama to apologise to the Asantehene.

Nana Oppong Boadu said failure to retract the statement and apologise within 48 hours will have dire consequences for John Mahama and the NDC in the Ashanti Region.
