Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about the only record he wants get better than his biggest rival Lionel Messi.

The two footballing greats have ten Ballon d'Or awards between them in the last decade before Real Madrid's Luka Modric broke the monopoly last year.

Ronaldo and Messi's rivalry became more interesting when they came up against each other in El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

And till date, fans of both stars are still divided on debate about who the best player on the planet is.

Ronaldo has won five Champions League trophies to Messi's four but the Argentine talisman has ten La Liga titles, while Ronaldo has six league titles with Manchester United, Madrid and Juventus.

However, the pair are tied on five Ballon d'Or awards each and it is the area Ronaldo wants to become better than Messi.

In this interview with Piers Morgan, the 34-year-old was asked which record he would like to beat Messi and he said: "Golden Balls (Ballon d'Or).

"I would love it and I think I deserve it."

Ronaldo also described Messi as "a fantastic guy, fantastic player", saying: "Messi's in the history of football - but I think I have to have six or seven or eight to be above him.

"I'm sure I'm in the history of football for what I have done and what I'm continuing to do, but one of the best players in history. For me, the number one in history, but for some fans, if the number one is another one and I'm second, it doesn't matter.

"I know I'm in the history of football as one of the greatest ever."
