- Manchester United vs Astana Europa League clash ended in favour of the Premier League side
- Mason Greenword scored the only goal that separated the two sides during regulation period
- The Red Devils welcome Arsenal Old Trafford for their next EPL fixture
Mason Greenwood's lone strike was all that Manchester United needed to get their Europa League campaign off to a flying start.
The 17-year-old forward clinically broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute after dribbling a few FC Astana defenders before sending the ball in between the legs of Nenad Eric.
It would mean a perfect start for the Red Devils as the teenage sensation scores his first goal for the club since he got promoted to the senior team in 2018.
Although, Man United are currently struggling in the Premier League at the moment despite managing to beat Leicester City in their last outing at the same venue as this encounter.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rang a number of changes to his side that defeated Leicester City in their last Premier League outing and they were able to get the job done.
Apart from Marcus Rashford and Nemanja Matic, all others who secured the victory over the Kazakhstan Premier League side did not start for the EPL side last weekend.
Solskjaer's men got the game to a bright start with Rashford forcing Eric to make early saves in the 13th minute of the meeting.
In the 21st minute, the England international was presented with another opportunity after Marcos Rojo tried stringing a pass to him but his weak shot went straight to the goalkeeper.
The visitors made double substitution at the start of the second half in a bid to stun their hosts but they could not convert the chances they created in the game.
Man United boss introduced Juan Mata into the mix in the 68th minute as he was desperate to find the opening goal with the game running to an end.
And just five minutes after the introduction of the Spaniard, Greenwood grabbed the only goal from close range and puts his side atop of Group L table.
They will however hope they can replicate their winning mentality when they face Arsenal in this weekend's EPL fixture.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Arsenal kicked off their quest to win first European title with a 3-0 win over German side Eintracht Frankfurt at Commerzbank Arena.
A goal each from Joseph Willock, Bukayo Saka and ensured the Gunners cruise to victory in Germany earlier this evening.
The north Londoners will however shift their focus to their Premier League outing against Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend.
