- In the past few days, there have been issues coming up with statements Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made while addressing the UN
- This statement by him brought up a lot of political and cultural controversies
- Addressing the issue, the Otumfuo said he is above politics as he is concerned with the growth and development of the country
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stated that the throne he occupies puts him above partisan politics.
According to him, he would continue to contribute his quota to the peace, unity and growth of the country.
Addressing a durbar during an Akwasidae festival in the United States of America, he said he doesn’t have special preference for any political party in the country, adding that his only interest is to see Ghana become prosperous.
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and all the other political parties in Ghana belong to me and that is an undeniable fact that you are all aware of,” he said.
He also promised to continue to act as a father figure for the state as he had done during his two-decade reign on the Golden Stool.
He pledged to continue to settle political disputes and protect Ghana’s peace and that nothing would compel him to relinquish his special role as a peacemaker in Ghana.
Manhyia earlier responded to the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama and his former chief of staff, Julius Debrah over counter comments.
“To call Otumfuo a liar or allow his cronies or to allow his people to disparage and pour vituperative to such a benefactor who went to the extent of accommodating you during your tenure as President, is to say the least very regrettable and inexcusable,” Otumfuo’s Spokesperson noted.
