Girl Power: 16-year-old climate activist gets top award from Barack Obama

- Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old climate activist has met with former US President Barack Obama during her visit to Washington

- Obama commended the young lady for being one of the voices of her generation, challenging the consequences of climate change

- During her recent visit around the world, Thunberg travelled by zero-emission sailboat to support her environmental ideas

Former US president, Barack Obama, on Monday, September 16, 2019, met with one of the youngest Swedish teenage climate activist, Greta Thunberg, during her to visit to Washington DC to talk about issues surrounding the environments.

CNN reports that after the former president met with the young activist, he tweeted that she is “already one of the planet’s greatest advocates”.

He further said that the knowledge of the consequences of climate change her generation will face is pursuing the young girl towards real action.

It should be noted that Thunberg became an international figure for climate change advocacy when she staged a one-man protest outside the Swedish parliament, an action which inspired other youth activists to hold theirs around the world.

After traveling across the world in zero-emission boat to show she is a practitioner of what she preaches, she arrived in New York, where she will be speaking at the United Nations Climate Action Summit to take place on Monday, September 23.

The former US president also asked about the recent protest the young activist had attended, to which she responded that everyone was so nice to her and eager in a very good way.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian teenager, Jeramy Botwe, has made global waves and dominated major headlines for his remarkable achievement after he received admission into all 15 universities he applied to including the eight Ivy League schools.

The universities include Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Standford, Brown, Dartmouth, Rice, Columbia, Cornell, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Duke, University of Pennsyvaia, University of Texas, University of Houston and the University of Chicago.
