Ronaldo's emotional message to fans after missing out on FIFA Best Player Award

Cristiano Ronaldo posted a cryptic message on social media hours after missing out on the Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award.

The Portuguese superstar came in third behind Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

At a colourful ceremony at La Scala Opera house in Milan, Messi was named Best Player for the sixth time.

The Argentine has now won the FIFA award more times than Ronaldo, who currently has five to his credit.

However, about an hour before the announcement was made, Ronaldo walked out of the ceremony and never returned.

The Juventus star then took to Instagram to post a cryptic message after being snubbed for the award.

Patience and persistence are two characteristics that differentiate the professional from the amateur,” Ronaldo wrote.

Everything that is big today has started small. You can’t do everything, but do everything you can to make your dreams come true.

“And keep in mind that after night always comes dawn,” he added, accompanied by a photo of himself sitting on a couch.

This is the second year in a row that the 20-year-old athlete has scooped such an award at the US College.

Last October, Martha became the first student there to win the US’ Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women’s cross country individual title since 2001.
