The United States House of Representatives has on Tuesday, September 24, through its speaker, Nancy Pelosi, announced that it would immediately begin a formal impeachment inquiry of President Trump.
According to Pelosi, President Trump betrayed his oath of office when he tried to enlist a foreign president so as to win election at at home.
Going further, she added that President Trump's actions are dishonourable and that it betrayed the country's natinal security and election integrity.
According to reports, the speaker has long resisted calls from some lawmakers to initiate impeachment proceedings against the president.
Trump was reported to have made a call to the president of Ukraine in July.
The president reportedly discussed corruption allegations against Joe Biden, a presidential aspirant with the foreign president.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that former United States president Jimmy Carter insisted that re-electing President Donald Trump in 2020 would be "a disaster".
The former president said this at a town hall at the Carter Center in Atlanta Tuesday night, September 17.
