A group of Accra Metropolitan Assembly city guards have seriously injured an Uber driver at the entrance of the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
The incident occurred at around 4pm on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, when an Uber driver parked around the entrance leading to GIJ campus.
The city guards, according to eyewitnesses, were at their usual hideout around campus where they continually harass innocent drivers who usually come around to pick up students.
Live video footage available on Twitter indicates that the Uber driver came to pick up a student who had requested his service.
He was however met with the unfortunate incident when the said guards rushed to clamp his car tyres.
In an attempt to interrogate the guards and explain issues to them, one of the guards (unidentified) gave him a hard Rambo-styled head-butt which swept him off his feet.
The Uber driver in the process sustained multiple degrees of cuts on his upper left eyebrow, with blood staining his T-shirt.
Many students and vendors around the spot of the incident stood in utmost shock as they expressed utter disgust at the incident.
Shapiro, a student of GIJ and an eyewitness to the issue could not hide his frustration, as he condemned the incident in its totality.
According to him, the AMA city guards seemed to have planned the operation, which according to him, was barbaric and totally unacceptable in the dispensation we find ourselves.
Other students who also witnessed the incident believe that the AMA city guards cannot continue to harass innocent drivers who are going about their normal business and helping students in the process.
