Ghanaian musician Lord Paper has opened up on the story behind his hit song Dzidzordi.
According to him, Dzidzordi is a real-life story that happened to his close friend.
In the song, Lord Paper sang of how Dzidzordi’s parents stopped her from seeing him because she is an Ewe and he is an Ashanti.
Narrating the story in an exclusive interview with YEN.com.gh on Thursday, September 26, 2019, Lord Paper said his friend was denied that relationship on a tribalistic basis.
He added that aside from relationship matters, some people were also being denied opportunities at workplaces and other spheres of life because of tribal differences.
Moved by the friend’s experience and those of others, Lord Paper said he decided to sing Dzidzordi to raise awareness about what he described as a canker.
He also decried a problem in the Ghanaian music industry which is hampering its growth.
According to him, everyone wants to be at the top and so nobody wants to help anybody.
Lord Paper also described himself as Ghana’s best songwriter with good content.
The young musician rose to fame following a controversial video he shot for his first song Ewurama.
The video contained explicit scenes for which reason he was lambasted and heavily criticised for it.
He also disclosed that he was formerly shunned by his colleagues because of the video, however, he is free with everyone now and can do a song with any artistes he chooses.
