The Deputy National Chief Imam Sheikh Ahmad Kamaludeen has passed away at the age of 103 years, YEN.com.gh has learnt.

As appropriate with Islamic customs, Sheik Kamaludeen has been laid to rest at the Awudome Cemetery in Accra.

His death will come as a big blow to the Muslim community as he was one of the most revered leaders.

By his position, he was the second most important person in the Muslim community after National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhhu Sharabutu.

An astute Islamic cleric, the deceased has received many awards in the West African Sub-region as one of the most learned Islamic teachers and clerics.s

Sheikh Kamaludeen is said to have been Sheik Sharabutu's childhood best friend and classmate.

It was only appropriate that Sharbutut officiated the funeral ceremony (Janazah) which was attended by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Janazah also saw leading members and executives of the two major political parties – New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC), were in attendance.

Meanwhile, the National Chief Imam marked his 100th birthday in April with many Ghanaians taking to social media to celebrate him.
