A long-time personal guard of Saudi Araba King Salman, Major-General Abdulaziz al-Fagham, has been shot dead during a personal dispute, state media report confirmed.
Aljazeera reports that he was killed in the Red Sea port of Jeddah, the place the government relocated to for the summer period.
The state-operated Saudi Press Agency said the body guard was shot and killed when he was visiting his friend’s home.
According to a police statement cited by the media, the conversation between the major-general and one Mamdouh bin Meshaal Al Ali became very headed before the latter open fire.
The statement also said the shooter did not surrender to the police who immediately surrounded the scene and was shot dead.
After the incident, Al-Fagham was rushed to the hospital but sadly later died from the gun shot wounds. Tributes have since been coming in from social media following his death.
A senior court adviser, Turki al-Sheikh tweeted that may his soul rest in peace, while the country’s minister of health, Tawfiq al-Rabiah, also offered his condolences.
Aljazeera also reports that gun crimes are not common and in 2017, there were 419 reported homocides.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the chairman of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, Ahmad Al-Khateeb, said the kingdom will open its doors to international tourists under a new visa system that allows people from 49 countries to apply for e-visas and visas on arrival.
Al-Khateeb, who made the disclosure on on Friday, September 27, said the move was part of the kingdom’s efforts to wean its economy off oil.
It was gathered that no black African nation, including Nigeria, is included in the offer, which take effect from Saturday, September 28.
