A fire outbreak at the Ghana Police Training School at Tesano has led to the destruction of the school’s tailoring shop.
The unfortunate incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, September 30, 2019, Joy News reports.
Despite distress calls being put through to the fire service, there was very little they could do to stop the spreading fire.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service battled with the fire for close to 30 minutes before managing to bring it under control.
Explaining matters, the Deputy Chief Superintendent of the Police Training school, Isaac Kwesi Sorkpah, said the fire completely destroyed the tailoring shop.
“Unfortunately, we have lost everything to the fire; the industrial machines we work with, all the materials that are here to be sown have all been destroyed by the fire,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
This comes just a few weeks after Ghana’s largest spare parts hub at Abbosey Okai in Accra was also gutted by fire.
The Abbosey Okai fire reportedly lasted for more than three hours before it was eventually contained.
An initial assessment by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) revealed the outbreak was caused by the burning of worn-out tyres close to shops in the hub.
This led to some shop owners losing their goods running into hundreds of cedis as a result of the fire.
