A popular lecturer at the Political Science department of the University of Ghana, Prof Ransford Gyampo has been caught on camera in the BBC Africa Eye’s “sex for grades” investigations.

The Head of European Studies at the University of Ghana was seen seen requesting to marry one of undercover journalist posing as a student seeking academic favours.

Professor Gyampo, who is also the deputy Electoral Commissioner of Ghana, in excerpts of the video released on BBC Somalia’s Facebook page, persuaded the reporter to meet him at the mall where he was caught on camera making “numerous inappropriate demands.”

The documentary was commissioned in response to allegations of sexual harassment by lecturers that have hovered over tertiary institutions.

After initial interviews, BBC Africa Eye sent undercover journalists posing as students inside the University of Lagos and the University of Ghana.

The lead reporter in the exposé, Kiki Mordi, said she was also a victim of sexual harassment when she was in school.

Meanwhile, the BBC’s yet-to-be aired documentary on sex for grades at top universities in the West African sub-region has implicated two Ghanaian lecturers from the University of Ghana.

The promo of the documentary as advertised by the BBC, shows how a lecturer by name Dr Paul Kwame Butakor at Ghana’s premier university, asked to be the undercover journalist’s ‘side guy,’ after the latter posed as a final year student interested in pursuing her master’s degree.

Dr. Butakor, according to the exposé, promised to offer the undercover lady a National Service placement at his department.
