Rebecca Akufo-Addo: First Lady refurbishes 89-year-old maternity home in Accra

Ghana's First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has commissioned a newly-refurbished maternity home in the heart of the capital, Accra.

The Osu Government Maternity Home was renovated and refurbished for the first time by the Rebecca Foundation after 89-years.

Speaking at a ceremony to hand over the facility to the medical officers, the First Lady noted that the maternity home will go a long way to prevent needless maternal deaths.

She said she was always distraught whenever she received news of the passing of expectant mothers during delivery of newborns.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Shi Ting Wan for supporting her foundation to renovate the facility.

Special thanks also went to Build-Hull Construction Company for its timely and efficient execution of the project.

The newly refurbished Osu Government Maternity Home now comprises; a new delivery theatre with four delivery beds, three antenatal focus consulting rooms, nurses room, clinical laboratory, clinical pharmacy, a new sterilization room, and a placenta pit, as well as a new Matron’s office.

The facility also now has an emergency ambulance on standby for transportation of emergency and referral cases. earlier reported that the embattled businesswoman whose Twitter comments suggested she has been sexually harassed by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana has clarified her stance.

In a statement shared on her Twitter handle, the CEO of Africa Integras, Andrea Pizziconi said she was misunderstood.
