Council of State member dies at 74

The Upper West representation on the Council of State, Mogtar Shahanun has passed at age 74.

The veteran politician and statesman died on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in the Upper West Region.

According to Joy News, Shahanun was taken ill and was rushed to the hospital, were he was declared dead.

He was buried on the same day inline with Islamic traditions.

He was Upper West regional minister during former president John Kufuor tenure.

He also served as Ghana’s ambassador to Burkina Faso from 2005 to 2009.

He is credited for the establishment of the Wa campus of University of Development Studies (UDS) in 2002.

He is survived by two wives and ten children.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council of the NPP held a meeting in Accra to set the date for the party’s presidential primaries.

The New Patriotic Party, after the meeting, agreed to hold its presidential primary on April 25, 2020.
