GRA retrieves GHC32 billion revenue from taxpayers

- The Ghana Revenue Authority has at the end of September 2019, received GH¢ 32 billion

- Acting Commissioner General of the Authority, said most companies owed GRA taxes and as part of a campaign to retrieve the money, they have written to the organisations to settle their debts

The Ghana Revenue Authority has at the end of September 2019, received GH¢ 32 billion of its target for the year from taxpayers.

The Acting Commissioner General of the Authority, Amishaddai Owusu Amoah, has expressed optimism that the Authority would meet the target by the end of the year.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the Owusu Amoah said the Authority had put in place measures to collect taxes for the country.

On debt collection, Owusu Amoah said most companies owed GRA taxes and as part of a campaign to retrieve the money, they have written to the organisations to settle their debts or face the full rigours of the law.

In line with that, the Authority in September 2019, launched a task force dubbed: “Operation Collect, Name and Shame” aimed to collect taxes that were overdue and publish the names of businesses that are proving recalcitrant to settle their tax debt.

The task force was to ensure compliance of companies and individuals who have refused to pay their outstanding taxes.

In other news, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has pleaded with Ghanaians and voters to give him a second chance to serve as president of the republic.

The former president who is seeking a comeback noted that he has learnt lessons and wants the opportunity to give Ghanaians hope again.
