Habiba Atta Forson, 74, has attained a remarkable feat after she clinched a win at a delegates contest to become the only elected female at the apex decision-making body of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Having failed on several attempts, Forson, won the hearts of delegates who helped her defeat a younger Evelyn Nsiah Asare in a close contest.
Habiba Atta polled eight votes to secure the only slot on the GFA Executive Council allocated for women’s football while her close contender, Evelyn Nsiah Asare got seven votes.
Senior sports journalist Rosalind Amoh got one single vote to place third while Edna Quagraine got no vote at all to place fourth.
According to Pulse Ghana, in 2015, Madam Habiba Atta lost to Leanier Addy, who was implicated in the Numer 12 expose’ by multiple-award-winning journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Trailblazer Habiba Atta is hailed as the person who pioneered women’s football in Ghana.
She founded Fabulous Ladies, one of the refined women football teams in Ghana, which is often mistaken by some fans to be the women’s team of Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
