Do not compromise on your role as we prepare for the electioneering period – Peace Council to media

The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof. Emmanuel Asante, has called on the media to be circumspect in their reportage as the country prepares for the 2020 electioneering period.

He said the media must also hold on to its responsibility of educating the public on their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

Speaking with the media, Prof. Asante advised the media not compromise on their gate-keeping role and ensure that powerful people are held in check.

“We believe that we have a responsibility for the people of this nation for our democracy, for the development of Ghana and we believe that the media has a responsibility to educate the people and also hold others in check as gatekeepers. You should not compromise on this role.”

Meanwhile, former president John Dramani Mahama says he is the reason why Ghana’s economy is considered as fast growing in the world.

According to the NDC flag bearer, the Akufo-Addo administration is only reaping from his government’s “hard work”.

Addressing NDC members in the UK, Mahama said the growth achievement which is being "trumpeted" by the Akufo-Addo government, came about as a result of his administration's sterling performance in office before the current government took over.

“…the fastest-growing economy. It cannot be by accident. Yes, it is not by accident because we worked just to make it happen,” the former president told the gathering.
